Harrier Club of America (HCA) |
|
Last updated January 19, 2010

The HCA is the Parent Club for the Harrier breed. For the most part that means we are Harrier owners, breeders & exhibitors; but we also have members who do not own a Harrier, but rather are just interested in the breed & in helping out with the club. Many of our members are active in showing in AKC conformation events, competing in obedience, agility, and tracking. Some of us hunt with our hounds. And there are an ever growing number of members whose only desire is to love, spoil, and treasure their Harriers as wonderful family companions.
Our main goals are to provide information on Harriers to the general public, to promote the responsible ownership of Harriers, to act as the guardians of the breed, to act in a rescue capacity for any Harrier in need of assistance, and to demonstrate the all-around nature of our hounds through conformation events, obedience events, tracking, agility and hunting trials.
T
he HCA as it stands now was formally begun in 1992 when a group of Harrier owners & breeders were brought together in Pennsylvania during the filming of the AKC Harrier Breed Video. The club has continued since then, with officers being elected, by-laws being adopted & having "national'' specialties, information booths, fun matches & futurities each year. We have been accepted by the AKC as the Parent Club for Harriers, and have been approved to hold Licensed specialty shows since 1999.T
he HCA has an open membership, and anyone interested in Harriers or who already owns one is encouraged to apply for membership. A membership application can be requested from the HCA Secretary (see address below). The signature of 2 current members are needed as sponsors on the form, along with a small membership fee. Contact any of the officers below if you need a sponsor.E
ach year, the HCA will host a National Specialty Show in conjunction with one show or circuit of shows. This location changes each year. At this show, we also have a breed information booth and sometimes also host Judges Breed Seminars.See photos of past National Winners here.
